The Grand Hotel Aluva is a true old-timer spot bursting with nostalgic charm and Kerala heritage. Step in for classic hotel tea vibes and breakfast, a scene that’s fading away nowadays. Their porotta puffs are unique and famous, but more for tradition than exceptional taste—mutton dishes, however, are outstanding and keep regulars coming back. If you love nostalgia served with genuinely flavorful food, this place is worth a visit.

Constructed in the late 19th century, the Grand Hotel proudly advertises itself as having the world’s largest porch and has hosted many notable visitors, including five U.S. presidents, inventor Thomas Edison, and author Mark Twain. I had the chance to try their biriyani and porotta puffs, and both were delicious — full of flavor and truly enjoyable. The service was decent, and I appreciate how the hotel has preserved its original charm by maintaining the old architectural design. Overall, it’s a place that blends history with good food, making it worth a visit.
